Broadcasting Magic with Mixlr

I have been non-stop searching for ways to share our music to our fans. I love the chemistry our band shares on stage and having that captured is a constant concern of mine. In the digital age it seems like an easy task, but alas it did not prove to be so simple. I found lots of options but none of them seemed to fit exactly what I was looking for. I even tried just using the voice recorder on my iPhone, but didn’t have the flexibility of sharing and editing afterwards. Then I found Mixlr. What a perfect app for the modern indie musician. It allows you to stream live free, fans to listen, for free, and then share or embed through your website, sends live links and updates through Facebook and Twitter, and even upload to Sound cloud afterwards.

We played a large show at our Local Brewery (Cheaha Brewing Company) Friday evening and it seemed like the perfect night to try our Mixlr. I set my iPhone on the music stand at the front of the stage and walked away. The crowd was responsive and the atmosphere was set. We played our first set and everyone just lived in the moment. It wasn’t long before we all forgot we were being recorded and that’s when the magic happened. After we finished our last song of the set, I went to check and see if the recording was as kinetic as I hoped. I picked up my phone and of course, it was dead. Never fails, the moment you start to get excited, technology kicks you back down to reality.

I wasn’t able to listen to the recording until the next morning, but I pressed play and realized, I had 47 minutes of show recorded. Hazah! The night was saved. It wasn’t long before I realized not only had it worked, but it was just as spectacular as I had hoped. The sound was amazing, and you could even hear the interactions with the crowd. It was great. I finally have found a wonderful way to share all the special parts of our shows with people across the states, even across the world (assuming we ever have fans outside of Alabama). Get out there and download it today, and start sharing your sound with the masses.
